Alternate Order & Narrative Time
Alternate Order has two functions within Frameline 47, it can function as a type of Content Notation and as a method for changing the order of Segments in a Video. To permanently change the order of Segments, you need to use the Consolidate command to create a new file.
The Alternate Order controls can be found below the Segment list on the Notate Window interface.

To create an Alternate Order you need to click on the button that says ‘File Order’ and select Alternate Order. You will notice that the Segment list turns blue to indicate that you are now in Alternate Order. Once in this mode you can click, hold and drag Segments into different positions, or you can select a Segment or a Group, and use the up and down arrow keys on the interface to move that Segment or Group. Please note that with Segments in Groups, you can only re-order Segments within their Group, you cannot move Segments to different Groups.
Alternate Time as a form of Content Annotation.
There are two types of time in Video; Presentational & Narrative. Presentational Time is the original order in which the media is delivered, i.e. starting at zero and ending at sixty minutes. Narrative Time can be considered story time. For example a story may begin with a flashback. In the film Pulp Fiction the Travolta character Vincent is killed in the middle of the film, yet appears in the last scene. This is because the filmmaker is using time creatively. Frameline 47’s Alternate Time tag can be used to notate this ordering in relation to the presentational time of the media.
Notes on Alternate Order
Once you have created an Alternate Order, you cannot then continue to edit Segments and Groups. If you do decide to continue to edit, your Alternate Order data will be lost.
