Capture
The Video Capture Tool enables capture from live stream (such as iSight) or from a tape source (such as DV). Capture uses OS X 10.5 Leopard's capture API, & is therefore not available to users on the OS X 10.4 'Tiger' platform. Please refer to system requirements for more information.
To launch capture, click on the camera icon at the bottom left of the file window, or choose 'File / Capture' from the application menu.
The Capture Interface

1: Video Source
This control enables you to choose between available video sources, for example between iSight & DV Camera.
2: Save File To
This control enables you to choose the folder that the captured video is saved to. By default this folder will be the capture folder. You can change the location of the capture folder with this control which will launch the applications preferences.
3: As Format
This control enables you to generate files from capture in the following formats:
• Source (1 file): captures in the source format ie: DV
• Source & Proxy (2 files): captures source format & generates a real-time proxy copy of the file at the same time.
• Proxy (1 file): generates a real-time proxy copy of the file.
Proxy resolution option
By clicking on the cog icon you can choose between capturing to MPEG4 at either 320 x 240 or 640 x 480. Both settings use the H.264 codec at medium quality.
Please Note: As of Quicktime Version 7.6.3, when capturing as MPEG4, a bug exists within Quicktime that may cause the premature end of Capture, showing the error message 'Maximum capture duration reached'.
4: Option to Create Single File
When capturing from a timecode source for example from a DV tape, each timecode break is normally saved as a different file. By checking the 'single file' tickbox, Frameline will save each of the separate 'clips' into the same file. The option is on by default & is recommended.
5: File Name
Enter the name of the captured file in this text field. If no name is entered, then the file will be saved as 'untitled'.
6: Source & Location REF
These fields are metadata fields to help you keep track of the source media. Please refer to file annotation for more details.
7: Add Segment
This button enables you to manually add breaks in a captured stream. When viewed in edit mode, these 'breaks' will show up as separate segments in the edit timeline.
8: Tape Controls
When connected to a timecode source such as a DV tape, this interface enables remote control of that device, with the functions you would expect such as rewind, forward, play, pause, stop, etc.
9: Capture & Stop Capture Button
Starts & stops the capture process. Upon stopping the capture process you will be prompted to either save or delete the captured media file/s.
10: Segment Display
This shows the segments that are created during capture. These segments will be reflected in the Edit Window. To mark a segment, check the 'mark' tickbox.

Re-Capture
The Frameline Version 3.2 adds the ability to be able to re-capture Video Files. To re-capture a Video file, select a file in the file window that has timecode, and click on camera icon;

The capture window will then open, and you will be prompted to add the appropriate tape to your deck;

The recapture process will then automtically begin once the Capture button is clicked.
