Chooser
This part of the file window interface should be familiar as it is essentially a video specific version of the chooser found in both the Finder/iTunes and other applications:

Clicking on an item in the chooser will show all the video files in that location in the file display.
Devices
Shows 'devices' that are attached to your system such as hard drives, optical media, connected servers etc. You can prevent image disks and optical media disks from showing up in devices by choosing 'ignore' from general preferences.
Please refer to the Device Processing page for more detail.
Places
Shows popular places in your system as per Finder. You can customise which places are displayed here from within places preferences.
Collections
Along with File Keywords, Collection and Part is intended to be the primary method within Frameline for grouping Video files. You can assign a File into a Collection using File Annotation, or by assigning during a move operation, or via the UI element at the bottom of the file window's video display. When you create a Collection it will appear as an item under Collection, & clicking on this item will show all the files that belong to that Collection in the File list. Please refer to the Collection & Part page for more information.
Metadata
This item enables a powerful way to find files according to the descriptive data they contain:
File Annotation
You can assign 'Notator, Owner, Creator, Producer & Distributor' as 'People' annotations within the File Annotations window. As with collection, the People annotations are listed under the People item, & clicking on this item will show all the files that belong to that item in the file list.
History
History is a very useful & quick way to find files by their usage date range. The diagram below explains at a glance all the history options available:

File Count
New to Version 3.2 is a file count. This function provides a helpful method for seeing the amount of files in particular locations. The file count is pretty good, but is not yet perfect, and can sometimes display incorrectly.
To reset the application's file count display, choose Consolidate Database from the Advanced Menu. Please note that records for missing files will also be removed when using this function.

Marked files
You can mark files for quick reference by checking the tick box beside files in the file list in the file window:

To unmark a file simply uncheck this tickbox. Clicking on the 'Marked' item in the chooser under metadata, will then display all the Marked files:
