Thread
Thread is the equivalent tag to Story Line. Usually narratives are made up of a number of storylines, or one main plot and a couple of sub-plots. With non-narrative media, thread can be considered as themes. For example, if notating a political speech, paragraphs of the speech could be turned into segments with Education, Health or Immigration as threads.
The following diagram shows the appearance of the various ‘Plot Threads’ that make up a week of the popular teen soap Neighbours:

Quick-Tag Buttons
The who, thread and place fields in the content description pane are known as Quick Tag Buttons. These buttons are designed to enable the fast tagging of content by using the numbers pad of a standard extended keyboard. Both the Who and Thread fields have additional advanced tags that can be associated with Segments.
To create a Quick-Tag button, simply type in the name of a tag into the text field above the buttons and click return, and the button will then appear.
To activate the advanced tag, simply hold down the Apple Key and Click on the Quick-Tag Button you wish to associate the advanced tag with. You will then see that the advanced tag becomes activated:

When Content notation has been applied to a Segment, a yellow square appears in the Segment list to help inform which Segments have so far been notated:
If using an extended keyboard, you may tag up the Who, Thread and location fields at speed by using the number keys. See Manage lists for more details on how to set up the Quick-Tag Buttons.
