Database & Spotlight

Frameline 47 uses OSX’s Spotlight database in tandem with an SQL database to store information about your video assets. Spotlight is a functionality of the operating system which tracks files enabling them, and their content, to be found.

When first launching the application after installing, you will need to select which drives are indexed for video files (this process may take between five & ten minutes per 1000 video files depending on system speed). Once this process is completed, the database will be built, and you will be able to access and view the files.

Please refer to Device Processing page for more information.

Once the File Window appears, Poster Frame Images will be created for each of the video files on your system - again this process may take a few minutes, but will only take place once, & when new files are added.

Upon restarting, the application will check with Spotlight to see which video files have been added or deleted while Frameline has not been running. If any video files are missing, the database will automatically be updated, & the missing files no longer represented. This information is reflected in the start-up screen.

Important Note on Spotlight

If you have disabled Spotlight from searching in particular places, then Frameline will not show any files from those places.

Consolidate Database

If the data you are getting from the application is erratic, for example, the file count is incorrect, or a clip which you know exists is not showing up in the filter, then the database may need re-building.

To re-build the database, choose 'Consolidate Database' from the Advanced/Menu. The database will then be built up again from scratch by checking all the available files.

Please Note: If you have indexed a number of external drives, consolidating the database will remove records of the files on these drives if they are not connected at the time of performing the database consolidation.

Timemachine

Timemachine drives are ignored by the application. If you store video files on your Timemachine drive, then you will need to move them to another drive if you wish to be able to access them from the application.

NB: Subsequent versions of the application will include native support for Timemachine.
