Scrubber Modes

Scrubbing is moving through video files by dragging the playhead from side to side along a timeline. Frameline 47 has two scrubber modes, Video (Blue) and Image (White). Image Scrubber mode is referred to as ‘Poster Frame Scrubbing’, because it shows segment images instead of video while scrubbing.

The Edit window has a set of interface controls that enable switching between the three scrubber modes:

Option 1: Images (White Scrubber Graphic)

Because navigating through non-edit codec video by scrubbing tends to be a frustrating experience, Frameline 47 has a Poster Frame Scrubbing feature. This is indicated in the user interface by a white circle and is only applicable to segmented video. It works by displaying a still image of each segment of video as the playhead passes over that segment as it travels through the timeline. Poster Frame Scrubbing is a very fast way of navigating by eye through large video files.

Option 2: Video (Blue Scrubber Graphic)

Video Scrubbing Mode enables you to scrub through the video in the same way as the QuickTime player, that is by playing each frame of the video back as fast as it can. The benefit of blue scrubber mode is that each frame is played, and you get a ‘feel’ for the video. The disadvantage of scrubbing like this is that only edit codecs or video files with very small data-rates will scrub effectively, that is scrub without sticking. You will find that processor intensive codecs like H.264, when encoded at medium to high resolutions (640 x 480 Pixels and higher) are awkward to scrub through, even on very fast systems.

Option 3: Video: Dynamic (Blue Scrubber Graphic)

Video scrubbing can also be dynamic. This mode keeps the Dynamic Frame Display on while scrubbing, & also activates live Video in the picture in picture display while performing Zoom actions.

You can also switch between Image & Video Scrubber modes by:

• Double Clicking on the White or Blue Scrubber Circles
• Command + Clicking on the White or Blue Scrubber Circles
