Sharing

Frameline enables video sharing between Frameline users over a local network. Sharing uses Apple's Bonjour technology, & works in a very similar way to sharing in iTunes.

You can also set up a network drive to share video between users. The 'Enable file locking' check box refers to a functionality that helps prevent multiple users from editing the same file at the same time. Please refer to the Network page for more details of this functionality.

To activate Sharing, open the application Preferences & tick the 'Enable' checkbox under the 'Sharing' tab;

You may also specify a password, and specify if you wish to enable shared users to be able to transfer video files from your system to theirs.

Once Sharing is set-up, you will automatically see a list of available shared users under the Shared area of the file window:

Click on the icon to activate the connection. Once connected, you will have access to the user's Movies Folder & 'Playlists':

To close the connection, click on the eject button.

To transfer a file to your local system, choose 'Copy File to local System...' from the File Actions drop down:

Limitations

• Network Speed: Simply put, the faster the network the better. Using a slow wireless network for example will produce poor results.

• Streaming video over some networks can be problematic. Some types of files require that the entire file be transferred before they can be viewed. For best results, use MPEG4 files in a non-wireless network.
